California
Bungalow

We feel truly fortunate to have had the opportunity to work on this gorgeous home.

Part of the Martin 5 Homes designed by the famous architectural firm, Wolfe and McKenzie, from 1909-1912, this Craftsman home incorporated stunning architectural details and built-in cabinetry that the client and design team wanted to preserve.

The request: Reconfigure the interior space to enhance the flow in this already gorgeous, historic home, while maintaining the exterior. Spaces included were the master suite, kitchen/great room, mud room, incorporating a new powder room, and a remodel of the guest en-suite.

The challenge: Updating the home to today’s modern living function, while maintaining the history and charm of the original architecture.

It’s in the details: When the wall dividing the living space and kitchen was removed, the built-in cabinetry was saved and relocated, and installed as if it had always been there. Special care was taken to save as much of the original moldings as possible, and to replicate the details in areas of all new construction.
